2020 Will Be Your Best Year!
Are you ready to make 2020 your best year yet?
Start by reflecting on 2019
“Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.” - Aristotle
The start of a new year is a great time for reflection, so take some time to review the past year. What were your most significant accomplishments? What were your disappointments? Write those down. Consider what you did last year that worked well for you, and what didn’t. Take time to examine your choices. What positive habits did you develop that you would like to bring forward? What didn’t work for you that you would like to leave behind? Congratulate yourself on your successes, and humbly learn from your failures.
Now look forward to the year ahead: what is your vision?
“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” - Eleanor Rosevelt.
Let’s imagine for a moment that we’ve reached the end of 2020. What would have happened for you to say it was a really successful year? Think about every area of life. Are there health or fitness goals you would like to achieve? What healthy habits would you like to develop? How will your home or family life change? How will you be developing and practicing your spiritual or ethical beliefs? In what ways will you connect with your community? What progress do you hope to make professionally and financially? What will you say no to, and what new possibilities will you embrace? Take the time to ponder these questions and create a compelling vision for your future year.
Create S.M.A.R.T. goals!
“A goal properly set is halfway reached.” - Zig Ziglar
Now that you have reflected on the past year and identified your vision, create attainable and concrete goals. Make your goals S.M.A.R.T.: specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound. Be bold, but start with small changes that you can sustain over time. The effects of those small changes will compound, unlike the overwhelming changes people often attempt that fail quickly. Take each goal and break it down into manageable steps. Depending on the target date, divide each goal into monthly, weekly, and daily tasks. Consider using a bullet journal, productivity app, or planner calendar to help you track and stay on top of your goals.
Stay motivated
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do, so throw off the bowlines, sail away from safe harbor, catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore, Dream, Discover.” - Mark Twain
Take a moment to look at the goals you have set. Why do you want these goals? List the benefits of achieving each one. Tap into your inner motivation. Then share these goals with a supportive person close to you; they can help keep you accountable and encourage you along the way. Finally, stay inspired by reviewing your goals frequently. You have what it takes to make your vision a reality!
We wish you a successful and fulfilling year ahead!
